Romans 13

Romans 13 (King James Version)

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power?

Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Romans 13 (aletoledo Version)

Everyone is subject to the natural order of the world. Despite mankinds attempts to recreate the world in it’s image, their empires crumble and everything returns to god’s natural order. Therefore whoever opposes the natural order of the world is doomed to failure. For even the state with all it’s power can not criticize someone doing good, they can only criticize evil. Why then would anyone doing good have anything to fear from what god created?

Do good things and you will be recognized as a good person. For we have each been placed on earth to do good and only those that do evil have anything to fear from god. So while it is the role of the good man to oppose the evil man within this world, we shouldn’t just be acting good to avoid punishment, we should be acting good because it’s the right thing to do.
